DESCRIPTION
This bulletin provides the procedure to perform variant coding for the rear view camera after replacing the radio head unit. If the rear view camera variant coding is not performed, the rear view camera intermittently will not turn on when driver places the transmission in reverse.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES
2014 Equus (VI) equipped with DIS (Jog Dial) audio system.
2013 - 2014 Genesis Sedan (BH) equipped with DIS (Jog Dial) audio system.
Applicable Production Date Range: Produced from Start of Production to current.

Normal Warranty Applies.
GENERAL PRECAUTIONS
NOTE:
Make sure the battery icon at the bottom right of the GDS laptop shows at least 50%. If not, charge the GDS or attach a battery charger.
- Make sure the GDS is updated to the latest version (N-H-01 -16-1.16.06 or higher ) using internet smart update.
- Make sure the vehicle's battery has reasonable charge. If the vehicle has been in storage for a long period of time, run the engine to ensure an adequate battery charge state for reliable results.
- Turn off all lights (do not leave the headlight switch in auto mode) and all accessories (including heater/air conditioner/fan for both front and rear(if equipped), audio, heated seats, rear defroster, etc) to ensure the battery will not be discharged during the variant coding.
- Perform the variant coding with the ignition key in the ON position. (Turn ignition key to the ON position or press the Start-Stop button 2 times without depressing the brake pedal).
- Do not disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or the GDS during the variant coding.
- Do not start the engine or turn the ignition switch OFF during the variant coding.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Connect the USB cable between the GDS and the VCI.
- Connect the 16-pin DLC connector from the VCI into the DLC located under the driver's side dash (within the fuse box).
- Press the power button on the VCI to turn it ON .
- Turn the ignition key to the ON
position. (Turn ignition key to the ON
position, or press the Start-Stop button 2 times without depressing the brake pedal).
REAR VIEW CAMERA VARIANT CODING
- From the GDS home page, select Option Treatment
. After selecting Option Treatment
, if the GDS does not automatically detect the VIN, then manually enter the VIN number.
- Select DIS
as the system and then select OK
.
- Select Variant Coding
.
- Select Skip
.
- Select Camera Variant, Camera Type
based on the table below, and then OK
.

, the GDS will start its writing process (approximately 10 seconds) and then the head unit will reboot.
- After the variant coding has been completed, repeat steps 3-4 and confirm if the correct camera type is display next to Camera Variant.
- With vehicle engine ON , change the transmission shifter to reverse to activate the rear view camera, and confirm if it is working properly.
