Repair Procedures: Replacement

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery and then wait for at least 30 seconds.
  2. Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels can face straight ahead.
  3. Remove the airbag module.

    (Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")

  4. Disconnect the connector & lock nut (A) and then remove the steering wheel by using special service tools (09561-11001).

    Tightening torque: 

    44.1 - 49.0 N.m (4.5 - 5.0 kgf.m, 32.5 - 36.2 lb-ft)

    CAUTION:
    • Do not hammer on the steering wheel to remove it; it may damage the steering column.

  5. Remove the steering column shroud.

    (Refer to Restraint - "STEERING COLUMN SHROUD PANEL ")

  6. Remove the clock spring.

    (Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")

  7. Remove the multifunction switch.

    (Refer to MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH Body Electrical System )

  8. Remove the crash pad lower panel.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "CRASH PAD LOWER PANEL ")

  9. Disconnect all connectors (A) connected to the steering column.

  10. Remove the steering column (C) by loosening the mounting bolt (B-1 ea) and nut (A-2 ea).

    Tightening torque 

    (A): 2.7 - 17.7 N.m (1.3 - 1.8 kgf.m, 9.4 - 13.0 lb-ft)

    (B): 44.1- 49.0 N.m (4.5 - 5.0 kgf.m, 32.5 -36.2 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to damage the driver's seat when replacing the MDPS motor.
    • Be careful not to damage the MDPS motor & ECU.
    • If shock the motor, may occurs a noise caused by the bearing damage of motor inside.
  11. Remove the MDPS motor.

  12. Apply the grease at the new MDPS motor.
    1. Squeeze out grease as much as quantity of standard.

      Type:  Multemp MM-V

      P/N:  YSBB0-91105FFF

      Quantity:  0.7-1.2g (About 50 mm (0.1979 in))

    2. Apply the grease at the serration by stick or (-) driver.

    3. Make sure the grease and then reassembly the motor.

      NOTE:
      • Must be applied the standard grease. If not, may occur the noise.
  13. Install the MDPS motor.

    Tightening torque: 

    14.7 - 21.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.2 kgf.m, 10.8 - 15.9 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • When installing, make sure the motor wiring direction.
    • Tighten the mounting bolts slightly, and then tighten the bolt 1, 2 by the equal torque several times.
  14. Installation is the reverse of the removal.
  15. Conduct the "ASP Calibration".

    (Refer to MDPS motor - "MDPS Motor ")

  16. Check the DTC.
    NOTE:
    • If continue a trouble, replace the MDPS control unit.
  17. Turn off the IGN switch and wait for 20 seconds or more. Then check the operation after starting the engine.
