Removal and Installation

  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2. Remove the engine cover. (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")
  3. Remove the air duct and air cleaner assembly. (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")
  4. Remove the battery. (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "BATTERY ")
  5. Remove the engine control module (ECM). (Refer to Engine Control/Fuel System - "ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) ")
  6. Remove the battery tray. (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "BATTERY ")
  7. Remove the engine room under cover. (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
  8. Drain the engine coolant. (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")
  9. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A).

    NOTE:
    • When installing radiator hoses, install as shown in illustrations.

  10. Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).

    NOTE:
    • When installing radiator hoses, install as shown in illustrations.

  11. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).

    NOTE:
    • When installing heater hoses, install as shown in illustrations.

  12. Disconnect the wiring connectors and harness clamps and remove the connector brackets around the water temperature control assembly.

  13. Disconnect the oil cooler hoses (A).

  14. Remove the water pipe mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb - It)

  15. Remove the water temperature control assembly (A).

    Tightening torque 

    Nut  : 18.6 - 23.5 N.m (1.9 - 2.4 kgf.m, 13.7 - 17.4 lb - ft)

    Bolt  : 14.7 - 19.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.0 kgf.m, 10.8 - 14.5 lb - ft)

    CAUTION:
    • When you use current - carrying bolts and nuts for the coolant temperature control assembly, use the specified bolts and nuts.
    • Before mounting the coolant temperature control assembly, clean the contact surface.
  16. Install in the reverse order of removal.
    NOTE:
    • When installing, replace with new O-rings.
  17. Fill with engine coolant. (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")
  18. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  19. Recheck the engine coolant level.
