Detonation Retard Operation

Since engine is engineered to prevent detonation (engine knocking), the retard system does not work under normal operating conditions. However, if engine knock occurs, detonation sensor monitoring the knocking condition sends a signal to the ECU. After receiving the signal, ECU retards ignition timing to eliminate the knocking condition.
