On-Board Diagnostics Mode V
- To enter on-board diagnostic Mode V, turn ignition off. Ensure gear selector lever is in "P" position. Turn ignition on, and within 5 seconds, push memory set switch and 2 memory switches at the same time for greater than 2 seconds.
- Indicator lights on memory switches will illuminate and both seat and steering column will move to indicate successful entry into on-board diagnostic Mode V. Start engine as soon as indicator lights turn off, and within 15 seconds, drive vehicle at greater than 4 MPH. This tests Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) circuit. Stop vehicle, leaving engine running.
- If a circuit malfunctions, a fault code is displayed by flashing indicator lights on memory switches "1" and "2". For example, a fault code 3 is identified as 3 flashes. Each flash occurs in one second intervals. Identify corresponding diagnostic procedure. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC DIRECTORY (MODE V) table.
- Perform specified diagnostic procedure. See DIAGNOSTIC TESTS . Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs are made, erase diagnostic results memory. See CLEARING SELF-DIAGNOSTIC MEMORY .
- If no self-diagnostic faults are present, Mode V will end after VSS diagnosis is performed. Diagnosis will also end after self-diagnosis results have been indicated for 10 minutes if left unattended.
