Idle Speed

  1. Check for any stored DTCs. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES articles below:

Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Turn engine off. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector and restart engine.

  2. Check idle speed. See IDLE SPEED table. If idle speed is not within specification, snap throttle to 2000-3000 RPM, 2 or 3 times, under no-load and then allow engine to return to idle. Check idle speed and adjust if necessary.
  3. Locate idle speed adjustment screw. See Fig 1 or Fig 2 . Rotate idle adjusting screw decrease idle speed and increase idle speed. Snap throttle to 2000-3000 RPM, 2 or 3 times, under no-load and then allow engine to return to idle. Check that idle speed is with in specification. See IDLE SPEED  table.
  4. Turn engine off. Reconnect throttle position sensor connector and restart engine. Run engine at 2000 RPM for about 2 minutes under no load, and then allow engine to return to idle. Idle speed should be as specified. Clear any DTCs set during adjustment. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES articles below:
