Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor (I30)

CMP sensor monitors engine speed and piston position. CMP sensor is mounted on front engine cover and faces the camshaft. CMP sensor consists of a permanent magnet, core and coil. CMP sensor voltage signal to PCM changes as the distance between camshaft sprocket teeth changes when engine is cranking or running. PCM uses this signal to verify cylinder No. 1 TDC position for fuel injection and ignition timing.
