Hood Switch Check
- Open driver's window. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key from ignition switch. Close all doors, hood and glass hatch. SECURITY light should turn off. Open hood. SECURITY light should flash in one-second intervals. If SECURITY light operates as described, hood switch circuit is okay at this time. If SECURITY light does not operate as described, go to next step.
- Check adjustment and condition of hood switch in front of engine compartment. If adjustment and condition are okay, go to next step. If adjustment or condition is not okay, adjust or replace hood switch as necessary.
- Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Using a voltmeter, backprobe at terminal No. 29 (Yellow/Black wire) at Smart Entrance Control Unit (SECU) harness connector. See Figure . When hood is open, zero volts should exist. When hood is closed, battery voltage should exist. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, hood switch circuit is okay at this time.
- Disconnect hood switch harness connector. Check continuity between hood switch terminals. When hood switch is depressed, continuity should not exist. When hood switch is released, continuity should exist. If continuity is not as specified, replace hood switch. If continuity is as specified, check hood switch ground circuit and signal circuit for opens and/or shorts and repair as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
