DTC P0180: Fuel Tank Temperature (FTT) Sensor: Procedure

  1. Disconnect fuel level sensor and fuel pump harness connector located behind access cover under rear seat. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and fuel level sensor and fuel pump harness connector terminal No. 4 (Pink/Blue wire). See Fig 1. If voltage is about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not about 5 volts, repair open or short circuit and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Check continuity between body ground and fuel level sensor and fuel pump harness connector terminal No. 5 (Black wire). Also check circuit for short to voltage. Repair as necessary and retest system. If ground circuit is okay, go to next step.
  3. Remove fuel level sensor. Measure resistance between fuel level sensor and fuel pump connector terminals No. 4 and 5, with sensor at specified temperatures. See FUEL TANK TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel level sensor and retest system.
  4. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article.
