DTC P0500: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS): Procedure

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure. Remove instrument cluster and disconnect Brown 20-pin harness connector. Check continuity of Pink/Blue wire between instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 32 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 86. See Figure. Also check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. Repair as necessary and retest system. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  2. Reconnect all harness connectors. Check speedometer operation. If speedometer operates, go to next step. If speedometer does not operate, repair speedometer or circuit. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article.
