Test 5: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Check
- Check VSS Circuit (With Nissan's CONSULT Scan Tool)
Test drive vehicle. Using Nissan's CONSULT scan tool in DATA MONITOR mode, observe VHCL SPEED SE on display. If displayed vehicle speed matches actual vehicle speed, VSS is okay. If displayed vehicle speed does not match actual vehicle speed, go to step 3
.
- Check VSS Circuit (Without Nissan's CONSULT Scan Tool)
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect ASCD control unit harness connector. Using an analog voltmeter, measure voltage at terminal No. 7 (Pink/Blue wire) of ASCD control unit harness connector. See Figure
. With gear selector in "N" position, slowly turn drive wheel by hand. If voltmeter pointer deflects as wheel is turned, VSS is okay. If operation is not as specified, go to next step.
- Speedometer Operation Check
Ensure ASCD control unit harness is connected. Test drive vehicle. If speedometer operates properly, repair an open or short in Pink/Blue wire between terminal No. 7 of ASCD control unit harness connector and terminal No. 18 of combination meter (instrument cluster) harness connector. If speedometer does not operate properly, repair speedometer. See INSTRUMENT PANELS - Q45 article.
