DTC Confirmation Test (Using Generic Scan Tool)

  1. Turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select MODE 1 and read engine coolant temperature. Ensure engine coolant temperature is less than 104°F (40°C).
  2. If temperature is out of range, park vehicle in a cool place and allow engine temperature to stabilize. DO NOT attempt to lower coolant temperature with a fan or means other than ambient air. Doing so may produce an inaccurate test result.
CAUTION: DO NOT use ECM ground terminals when measuring voltage.
  3. While monitoring engine coolant temperature, start engine and let it idle. Measure voltage between ground and (TP sensor signal circuit) at ECM terminal No. 92 (Yellow wire) by backprobing. See Figure and Figure .
  4. When engine coolant temperature reaches 158°F (70°C), immediately drive vehicle at more than 6 MPH with engine speed at 1800-2800 RPM and TP sensor voltage at .86-2.00 volts for at least one minute. Stop vehicle.
  5. Repeat test from step  1. Select MODE 3 with scan tool. If DTC is detected, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If DTC is not detected, system is okay at this time.
