Ignition Switch (Start Signal): M45
- If using CONSULT-II, go to next step. If not using CONSULT-II, go to step 3.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check START SIGNAL in DATA MONITOR mode under the following conditions. If ignition switch is in, ON position, start signal should be OFF. If ignition switch is in START position, start signal should be ON. If results are as specified, inspection is complete. If results are not as specified, go to step 4.
- Check voltage between ground and ECM terminal No. 59 under the following conditions. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If ignition switch is in START position, battery voltage should exist. If ignition switch is in any other position, battery voltage should be about zero volts. If voltage is as specified, inspection is complete. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position, then turn it to START position. If starter motor operates, go to next step. If starter motor does not operate, see appropriate STARTER article under ENGINE article.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect 10-amp fuse. Inspect condition of 10-amp fuse. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is faulty, replace 10-amp fuse.
- Reconnect 10-amp fuse. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Disconnect ignition switch harness connector. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal No. 59 and ignition switch terminal No. 5. See Fig 3. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. If no problem is found, go to step 8. If problem is found, go to next step.
- Check the following:
- Harness connectors M135 and F105.
- Fuse block (J/B) No. 1 connector M1.
- Harness for open or short between ignition switch and fuse block (J/B) No. 1.
- Harness for open or short between ECM and fuse block (J/B) No. 1.
Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
- Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. Inspection is complete.
