Diagnostic Procedure
SYMPTOM 1:
- Selector lever cannot be moved from P position with key in ON position and brake pedal applied.
- Selector lever can be moved from P position with key in ON position and brake pedal released.
- Selector lever can be moved from P position when key is removed from key cylinder.
SYMPTOM 2:
Ignition key cannot be removed when selector lever is set to P position. It can be removed when selector lever is set to any position except P.
- Check key interlock cable

Check key interlock cable for damage.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 2.
- NG: Repair key interlock cable. Refer to KEY INTERLOCK CABLE .
- Check selector lever position
.
Check selector lever position for damage.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 3.
- NG: Check selector lever. Refer to ON-VEHICLE SERVICE - PNP Switch and Manual Control Linkage Adjustment, PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ADJUSTMENT and MANUAL CONTROL LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT .
- Check power source

- Turn ignition switch to ON position. (Do not start engine.)
- Check voltage between A/T device harness connector B59 terminal 5 and ground.
OK or NG
- Detect malfunctioning item
.
Check the following items:
- Harness for short or open between ignition switch and A/T device harness connector B59 terminal 5
- 7.5A fuse [No. 11, located in the fuse block (J/B)]
- Ignition switch (Refer to SCHEMATIC .)
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 5.
- NG: Repair or replace damaged parts.
- Check input signal A/T device

Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
- Check voltage between A/T device harness connector B59 terminal 7 and ground.
OK or NG
- DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
Check the following items:
- Harness for short or open between battery and stop lamp switch harness connector M31 terminal 1
- Harness for short or open between stop lamp switch harness connector M31 terminal 2 and A/T device harness connector B59 terminal 7
- Diode
- 10A fuse [No. 14, located in the fuse block (J/B)]
- Stop lamp switch
- Check continuity between terminals 1 and 2.
Check stop lamp switch after adjusting brake pedal - refer to ADJUSTMENTS .
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 7.
- NG: Repair or replace damaged parts.
- Check ground circuit

- Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
- Disconnect A/T device harness connector.
- Check continuity between A/T device harness connector B59 terminal 6 and ground. Refer to wiring diagram - SHIFT -.
Continuity should exist.
If OK, check harness for short to ground and short to power.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 8.
- NG: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
- Check relay circuit

- Turn ignition switch to ON and OFF position.
- Check continuity between terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5.
Yes or No
- Yes: GO TO 9.
- No: Replace relay.
- Turn ignition switch to ON and OFF position.
- Check park position switch
.
- Check continuity between A/T device harness connector B59 terminal 6 and relay (park position switch) harness connector M507 terminal 1.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 10.
- NG: Replace park position switch.
- Check shift lock solenoid
.
- Check operation by applying battery voltage shift lock solenoid harness connector M509 terminals 1 and 3.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 11.
- NG: Replace shift lock solenoid.
- Check shift lock operation
.
- Reconnect shift lock harness connector.
- Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position. (Do not start engine.)
- Recheck shift lock operation.
OK or NG
- OK: INSPECTION END
- NG: GO TO 12.
- Check A/T device inspection
.
- Perform A/T device input/output signal inspection test.
- If NG, recheck harness connector connection.
OK or NG
- OK: INSPECTION END
- NG: Repair or replace damaged parts.
