Inspection Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota Tundra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
- When replacing the VSC actuator assembly, perform zero point calibration (See CALIBRATION ).
- Make sure the skid control ECU is not in test mode before proceeding.
- Before using these procedures, first check other DTCs which may cause the ABS warning light to remain on.
- INSPECT CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
- Check if a CAN communication system DTC is output (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TABLE
).

A: Go To Next Step
- Check if a CAN communication system DTC is output (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TABLE
).
- INSPECT CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION
- Check the skid control ECU connector connection condition.
OK: The connector is securely connected.
NG: CONNECT CONNECTOR CORRECTLY
OK: Go To Next Step
- Check the skid control ECU connector connection condition.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND)
- Disconnect the A17 ECU connector.
- Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION TABLETester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition A17-9 (IG1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V - Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION TABLETester Connection Condition Specified Condition A17-1 (GND-I) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go To Next Step
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ABS WARNING LIGHT)
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Select the Active Test mode and operate the ABS warning light using the Techstream.
ABS/VSC/TRAC
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION TABLETester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note ABS Warning Light ABS warning light ON/OFF Observe combination meter - Check that the ABS warning light turns on and off in the combination meter when using the Techstream.
OK: The ABS warning light turns on and off in accordance with the Techstream operation.
HINT:
When the ABS warning light remains illuminated, there may be an open in the wire harness of the combination meter or abnormalities in the meter circuit.
NG: GO TO METER/GAUGE SYSTEM (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )
OK: REPLACE VSC ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
