Disassembly And Assembly: Disassembly
CAUTION:
Risk of injury caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension.
CAUTION:
Never damage piston rod of strut when removing components from strut assembly.
- Install strut attachment (SST: ST35652000) (A) to strut assembly and secure it in a vise.CAUTION:
When installing the strut attachment to strut assembly, wrap a shop cloth around strut to protect from damage.
- Using a spring compressor (commercial service tool) (A), compress coil spring between mounting bearing and lower rubber seat until coil spring with a spring compressor is free.CAUTION:
Be sure a spring compressor is securely attached to coil spring. Compress coil spring.
- Remove cap.
- Remove piston rod lock nut, using deep socket (commercial service tool) (A) while securing the piston rod, using TORX socket (commercial service tool) (B).
- Remove mounting insulator, mounting bearing, dust boot, and rubber seat from strut.
- After removing coil spring with a spring compressor (commercial service tool), then gradually release a spring compressor.CAUTION:
Loosen while making sure coil spring attachment position does not move.
- Remove bound bumper and lower rubber seat.
- Remove strut attachment (SST: ST35652000) (A) from strut.
- Perform inspection after disassembly. Refer to INSPECTION .
