Removal & Installation - A/T: Installation

  1. To install transmission, reverse removal procedure. Check that distance from edge of converter housing to front face of converter lugs is about 1 1/4".
  2. If drive plate was removed, DO NOT  reuse bolts. On 2.0L turbo engine, use slight amount of Loctite on bolt threads. Tighten drive plate bolts in a crisscross pattern to 43 ft. lbs. (58 N.m) on 2.3L, and 40 ft. lbs. (54 N.m) on 2.0L turbo.
  3. Tighten drive plate-to-converter bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 N.m). Install drive shaft bolts from transmission flange side and tighten to 26 ft. lbs. (35 N.m).
  4. Tighten transmission-to-engine bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 N.m). Fill transmission with ATF. Adjust throttle cable and shift control linkage.
