No-Load Test
- Disconnect wire from alternator terminal "B" and connect it to negative lead of an ammeter. Connect ammeter positive lead to alternator terminal "B". Start and run engine a 1900 RPM. Amperage should be less than 10 amps. If amperage is greater, replace IC regulator.
- Connect positive lead of a voltmeter to terminal "B" of alternator. Connect negative lead of voltmeter to ground. Start and run engine at 1900 RPM. Voltage should be within 14.2-14.8 volts. If voltage is larger than specifications, replace IC regulator. If voltages is less than specification insert a test lead in access hole and ground terminal "F" of IC regulator. Start engine and check voltage reading of terminal "B" of alternator.
- If voltage is larger than specifications, replace IC regulator. If voltage is less than specifications, alternator is defective.
