Trooper II 2.8L

  1. Check ignition timing with engine at normal operating temperature and A/C off (if equipped). Verify no "CHECK ENGINE" light.
  2. Put Electronic Spark Timing (EST) in bypass mode by disconnecting timing connector. Timing connector is a single wire connector located near in center console in passenger compartment. DO NOT disconnect 4-wire connector at distributor.
  3. Connect an inductive timing light to No. 1 spark plug wire. Set ignition timing to specification. See IGNITION TIMING  specifications table. Reconnect timing connector and clear ECM trouble codes.
    CAUTION: Ensure ignition is off when disconnecting or reconnecting power supply to ECM.
  4. To clear trouble codes, turn ignition off. Remove ECM fuse from fuse block for 30 seconds. Reinstall fuse.
  5. Trouble codes can also be cleared by disconnecting vehicle battery. However, other memory functions (clock, radio, etc.), will need to be reset.
