Power Steering Pump: Inspection

Check pressure plate and thrust plate sliding surfaces for ridges. Check valve sliding face for burrs or damage. Parts with minor scores may be reused after polishing with very fine emery cloth.

1. Ensure rotor groove is free of excessive wear and vane slides smoothly. Ensure sliding vane faces are free of wear and inner cam face makes uniform contact.
2. Pump cartridge should be replaced as an entire assembly (if needed). Check pressure plate and thrust plate sliding surfaces for ridges. Parts may be reused after lapping faces.
3. Check valve sliding face for burrs or damage. Parts with minor scores may be reused after polishing with emery cloth (No. 800 or finer). Needle bearing face must be free from abrasions and wear.
