Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check. See BASIC TESTING article. Go to next step.
  2. Check ignition control module for poor connection or damaged terminals. If a problem is found, repair as necessary. Retest system. If no problem is found, go to next step.
  3. Check PCM connector for poor connection or damaged terminals. If a problem is found, repair as necessary. Retest system. If no problem is found, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect harness from PCM and ignition control module. Check ignition control circuit for an open, short to ground or voltage. If a problem is found, repair as necessary. Retest system. If no problem is found, go to next step.
  5. Replace ignition control module. Retest system. If problem still exists, go to next step.
  6. Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. Retest system.
