Set/Resume/Cancel Switch

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section. DO NOT  apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
NOTE: On models with theft protection system, obtain radio security code from vehicle owner, before disconnecting battery cable.
  1. Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section. Remove dashboard lower cover and knee bolster. Disconnect combination switch harness 16-pin and 12-pin connectors, located beneath steering column. Using a DVOM, check for continuity between specified connector terminals, with SET/RESUME/CANCEL switch in appropriate position. See Fig 1 . See the SET/RESUME/CANCEL HARNESS CONTINUITY TEST  table.
    SET/RESUME/CANCEL HARNESS CONTINUITY TEST

Switch Position Continuity Between Terminals No.
    SET (On) B12 (1) & (2) A8
    RESUME (On) B12 (1) & (1) B15
    CANCEL (On) B12 (1) , A8 (2) & (1) B15
    (1) At 16-pin connector.
    (2) At 12-pin connector.
  2. If continuity does not exist as specified, replace SET/RESUME/CANCEL switch. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  3. Remove 2 screws from SET/RESUME/CANCEL switch. Disconnect switch 4-pin connector. Check continuity between terminals in each switch position. See SET/RESUME/CANCEL HARNESS CONTINUITY TEST  table. See Fig 2 . If continuity does not exist as specified, replace combination switch. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  4. Carefully remove steering column upper and lower covers. Disconnect 4-pin connector at cable reel. Check for continuity between connector terminals as follows. See Fig 2 :
    • Cable reel 4-pin connector terminal No. 4 and combination switch 12-pin connector terminal A8.
    • Cable reel 4-pin connector terminal No. 3 and combination switch 16-pin connector terminal B15.
    • Cable reel 4-pin connector terminal No. 2 and combination switch 16-pin connector terminal B12.

If continuity exists in all cases, replace cable reel. If continuity does not exist, repair open in appropriate wire between cable reel connector and combination switch connector.
