BRAKELIGHT Failure Sensor Test

  1. Ensure brakelights come on when brake pedal is depressed. If all brakelights come on, go to next step. If one of the brakelight does not come on, check for faulty brakelight bulb or poor ground connections. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If all brakelights do not come on, check brakelight circuit. Refer to the WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  2. Open left taillight access panel. Connect 8-pin brakelight failure sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 (White/Green wire) to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Depress brake pedal and turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position. If BRAKE LAMP light in safety indicator illuminates, go to step 4). If BRAKE LAMP light in safety indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Check for open in White/Green wire between safety indicator and left taillight or faulty safety indicator printed circuit board. Repair as necessary. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  4. Open right taillight access panel. Connect 8-pin brakelight failure sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 (Green wire). Depress brake pedal and turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position. If BRAKE LAMP light in safety indicator does not go off, go to next step. If BRAKE LAMP light in safety indicator goes off, go to step 6).
  5. Check for open in Green wire between left and right taillight assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, replace faulty left taillight failure sensor.
  6. Connect right 8-pin brakelight failure sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire) to ground. Depress brake pedal and turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position. BRAKE LAMP light in safety indicator should come on and turn off. If BRAKE LAMP light in safety indicator does not go off, check for faulty right failure sensor. Replace as necessary and recheck system operation.
