Cruise Control Systems: Description
WARNING:
Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
The cruise control system uses mechanical and electrically operated devices to maintain vehicle speed settings greater than 25 MPH. The cruise control unit receives command signals from cruise control main switch and cruise control SET/RESUME/CANCEL switch. It also receives operating signals from brakelight switch, Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), or gear position switch (A/T).
The cruise control unit compares actual vehicle speed to vehicle speed setting. The brakelight switch releases system control of throttle, when brake pedal is pressed. The clutch switch or gear position switch send a disengage signal to the cruise control unit.
