Flash Code Diagnostics
Flash code diagnostics can be used to read active codes and to determine if history codes are present. Flash code diagnostics cannot be used to clear codes or read history codes. Flash code diagnostics are enabled by grounding terminal No. 4 of Data Link Connector (DLC) connector with ignition on. See Fig 1. SDM displays trouble codes by flashing warning light. Each code displayed consists of a number of flashes which represent tens digit, followed by a 1.2 second pause, followed by a number of flashes which represent ones digit of code. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) table. After all codes have been displayed, entire code sequence will continually repeat until ground is disconnected from terminal No. 4 of DLC connector.
Flash code 12 will always be first code displayed. It is not an indication of a problem but an indication that flash code mode has been enabled. If there are no active or history codes present, code 12 will be displayed until ground is disconnected from DLC connector terminal No. 4.
Flash code 13 will be displayed if history codes are present. Scan tool is required to read history codes.
