Cruise Control Systems: Description
WARNING:
Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
The cruise control system maintains desired vehicle speed under normal driving conditions. Cruise control system consists of Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and combination switch. VehiCROSS uses an actuator and cruise control module to maintain vehicle speed. On Rodeo, Rodeo Sport and Trooper, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls engine speed through a throttle-by-wire system. Cruise control functions are integrated into PCM, thereby eliminating the need for an actuator and it's related components. On all models, release or canceling switches are used to disengage cruise control operation. Release switches are incorporated into brakelight switch and clutch switch circuits.
