Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Install a drain pan under the vehicle.
  3. Remove the tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

  5. Remove the outer tie rods retaining nuts and discard the nuts.

    NOTE: Do not attempt to disconnect a steering linkage joint by driving a wedge between the joint and the attached part. Seal damage may result which will cause premature failure of the joint.
  7. Disconnect the outer tie rods from the steering knuckles using J 24319-B  . See Special Tools .
  8. Remove the steering gear crossmember. Refer to Crossmember Replacement - Front Steering Gear .
  9. Disconnect the lower intermediate shaft from the power steering gear. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .

  11. Remove the power steering hose assembly to the power steering gear retaining bolt.
  12. Remove the power steering hose assembly from the power steering gear.
  13. Support the power steering gear.

  15. Remove the power steering gear mounting bolts.
  16. Remove the power steering gear from the vehicle.
  17. Remove the outer tie rods from the inner tie rods. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
