Line Pressure Tests

  1. With transmission fluid at correct level and operating temperature, and pressure gauge installed as previously described, line pressure can be checked.
  2. With vehicle stationary, service brakes applied (except as noted), check line pressures according to selector position and RPM conditions. See LINE PRESSURES  table.
  3. Total running time when performing combination of, Low or "2" at 1000 RPM and Reverse at 1000 RPM tests, must not exceed 2 minutes.
  4. When stationary testing is complete, perform Drive at 30 MPH Test, with vehicle on road or with vehicle raised on hoist and brakes released. Raise engine speed to 3000 RPM. Close throttle. Read pressure between 1200-2000 RPM.
LINE PRESSURES

Range Psi (kg/cm2 )
Neutral @ 1000 RPM (1) 55-70 (3.9-4.9)
Drive @ Idle (1) 60-85 (4.2-6.0)
Drive @ 1000 RPM (1) (2) 60-90 (4.2-6.3)
Low Or "2" @ 1000 RPM (1) 135-160 (9.5-11.2)
Reverse @ 1000 RPM (1) 95-150 (6.7-10.5)
Drive @ 1000 RPM (3) 90-100 (6.3-7.0)
Drive @ 30 MPH (4) 55-70 (3.9-4.9)
(1) Brakes applied.
(2) If line pressure is high, check vacuum and, if necessary check modulator.
(3) Brakes applied and downshift switch activated.
(4) Vehicle on hoist, driving wheels off ground, brakes released. Raise speed to 3000 RPM, close throttle and read pressure between 1200-2000 RPM.
