1997 Jaguar XK8, VIN 001001-on

ACTION

With the introduction of multiplexing on the XK8, it is imperative that the vehicle battery is disconnected prior to disconnecting and reconnecting any control module. Failure to follow this procedure could result in permanent damage to the modules and/or a module causing vehicle components to operate. The window position memory is lost whenever the vehicle battery is disconnected. In addition, disconnecting and rapidly reconnecting the vehicle battery can inhibit the operation of the analog clock. This bulletin describes the proper procedures to follow.

Always disconnect the battery negative cable before disconnecting or reconnecting any control module. After disconnecting either or both of the vehicle battery cables, wait at least 30 seconds before reconnecting the last cable. Always make a "clean" final connection. If the cable makes momentary contact only, wait another 30 seconds before trying again. Once the cables are tightened, reset the clock and the window position memory.

RESETTING DOOR WINDOW POSITION MEMORY

  1. Enter the vehicle and ensure that both of the doors are closed.
  2. Turn ignition to position II.
  3. Lower the driver's window to its fully open position and hold the switch in the down position for 5 seconds.
  4. Raise the window to its fully up position and hold the switch in the up position for 5 seconds.
  5. Open the door to verify that the window drops 12mm. Close the door to verify that the window closes.
  6. Repeat the procedure for the passenger door window.
