Engine Lubrication System: Notes
Engine oiling is the same on the non-supercharged and supercharged engine except on the supercharged engine an oil cooler and oil diverter valve are used. Oil cooler is attached to bottom of radiator. Oil diverter valve is located in oil pan. At low temperatures, the oil diverter valve is closed and oil goes from oil pump directly to oil filter. The oil diverter valve operates thermostatically and at higher temperatures diverts the oil through the oil cooler. The oil diverter valve begins to open at 217-225°F (103-107°C) and is fully open, diverting 100 percent of the oil, at 246°F (119°C). For oil circuit identification, refer to illustration. See Fig 1.
