Brake Shift Interlock Actuator Adjustment

- Remove the battery cover and disconnect battery ground cable.
- Remove the J-gate surround. See SELECTOR LEVER GATE FINISH PANEL .
- Remove the console finisher veneer panel. See FLOOR CONSOLE FINISH PANEL for 2001 or FLOOR CONSOLE FINISH PANEL for 2002-03.
- Remove the interlock solenoid actuating lever cover.
- Move the shift lever to N.
- Operate the gearshift interlock latch manually to release the selector lever from P .
- Adjust the gearshift interlock solenoid.
- Slacken the solenoid fixings.
- Hold the selector lever midway between P and R .
- Move the solenoid rearwards, against spring pressure, to take up the free play.
- Tighten the solenoid securing nuts.
- Ensure that the interlock actuating lever has no free play with the selector lever midway between P and R .
- Further installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
- Connect the battery and fit the battery cover.
- Reset the radio and the clock.
