SERVICE INFORMATION

Symptom 000101 Diagnostic Concerns

The SDD Monitor Trace and CAN Link Monitor applications are advanced diagnostic software debugging tools.

Under various circumstances, UK diagnostic engineers may require data captured using these applications when working to investigate the root cause of a diagnostic software issue reported by SDD users. Whenever instructed to capture SDD Monitor Trace and/or SDD CAN Link Monitor data, please refer to the instructions provided in the respective document attached to this SSM.

SDD MONITOR TRACE INSTRUCTIONS

When an SDD Monitor Trace is required, the following instructions can be used on Windows 7 equipped diagnostic tools. (WinXP is similar, look for "search" option on start menu, with "magnifying glass" icon.)

Once launched, the Monitor Trace window will open, and you will see data scrolling by in the open window.

When the scrolling stops, the trace is ready to collect the advanced debug data from your current diagnostic session. (see image below)

Monitor Trace Window after initial launch, ready to collect data.

Once the monitor is ready, launch SDD and leave this window open in the background.

Continue using SDD normally and attempt using the diagnostic function or tool that has failed and requires debugging.

IMPORTANT: This monitor trace must be saved as close to the point of failure as possible.

After the diagnostic failure has occurred, before advancing through any additional SDD screens or processing, return to this monitor trace window, and save the trace file. See screen shot below.

Once saved, you should close the monitor trace window, use the red "X" at upper right corner, or select File > Exit.

Use windows to browse for your saved monitor trace file in the location you selected, and transfer to JLR as instructed, either via e-mail, or attachment to an EPQR or TA case.
