ISSUE

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is making preparations to roll out Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) to all users of approved diagnostic devices on Windows 7 operating system.

To help us gain further data on updating devices to IE11, we invite users of approved diagnostic devices that are currently using Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) to update to IE11.

CAUSE

IE8 does not support all the new features in TOPIx.

Updating to IE11 will give users an improved experience when accessing information on TOPIx via approved diagnostic devices.

ACTION

NOTE: Approved diagnostic devices that have been supplied with Windows 10 are already approved to use IE11 and come with it pre-installed.

The device that is to be updated to IE11 must be on SDD version 156.02 or higher.

To install IE11, follow the manual patch instructions below.

  1. Restart the JLR Approved Diagnostic Equipment
  2. Select 'Manual Patch' Icon on the Application Launcher screen. Make sure that both Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) and PATHFINDER are closed before opening the Manual Patch downloader.
  3. A pop-up will be displayed for Manual Patch downloader
  4. Enter 'MP_JLR_L0089'  in the Patch Name field.
  5. Select 'Start'.
  6. The Manual Patch downloader will then download the manual patch.
  7. When the patch download has completed, a message will be displayed, asking the user to confirm that the application can run the manual patch. Select 'Yes'.
  8. When complete, the following message will be displayed: 'Successfully downloaded and started manual patch. Please make sure that the patch has installed successfully.'
    NOTE: This message will end after 10 seconds.
  9. IE11 will open a dialogue box. Select 'Install' to start the update to IE11.
  10. Follow the on screen instructions.
  11. When the IE11 update has completed, a message will be displayed: 'You need to restart your PC before you can use the new browser'. Select 'Restart now' for the installation of IE11 to complete.
  12. The device will restart.
  13. IE11 will be installed and available to use with SDD or browsing of web pages.
NOTE: In the event IE11 is not installed JLR needs feedback to understand why the installation failed. To capture the information required, please complete the following:
  1. Go to, C:\Windows\IE11_main.log
  2. Save the file IE11_main.log to the device desktop.
  3. Open a new Diagnostic report In GCM.
  4. Attach the IE11_main.log file to the diagnostic report.
  5. Enter the device model number and serial number to the diagnostic report.
  6. Submit the diagnostic report.

The information will be used to understand IE11 installation concerns before the global roll out to all JLR approved devices which will be subject to further communication at a later date.
