Overhaul - BA 10/5 5-Speed: Identification
Two versions of the BA 10/5 5-speed transmission have been produced. The 1st version has a gearbox numbered 31007 and has 3 hex head bolts that retain the inspection rear plate. See Fig 1. This inspection plate is located .191" (5 mm) from the output shaft housing. The 2nd version of this transmission has a gearbox numbered 31008 and has 3 flush mounted screws which retain the rear inspection plate. The inspection plate is located .354" (9 mm) from the output shaft housing. See Fig 1.
The 5-speed transmission has a split aluminum case. Gear assembly can be accessed after one half of case is removed. All forward gears are helical-type, and are synchronized for smooth gear engagement. Shift linkage is floor mounted with external linkage. Reverse and 5th gears are located in extension housing.
