Charging A/C System
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 22 other vehicles, including the 1994 Plymouth Voyager, 1994 Plymouth Sundance, 1994 Plymouth Laser, 1994 Plymouth Grand Voyager, and 1994 Plymouth Acclaim. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Manufacturer does not recommend using one-pound cans. Using a charging station will allow precise measurement of refrigerant charge. See REFRIGERANT OIL & REFRIGERANT SPECIFICATIONS tables in the A/C COMPRESSOR SERVICING
article for system capacities.
- System must be evacuated before charging. With manifold gauge set connected (from evacuation procedures), attach refrigerant container(s) to hose on center connector of manifold gauge set. Fully open refrigerant container valve(s), purge air from center hose, and close valves.
- Start and operate engine. Place A/C-heater controls on maximum cold setting with blower fan on low speed. Slowly open low-side (suction) gauge valve and maintain a pressure reading of 50 psi (3.5 kg/cm2 ) or less.
- Operate engine at 1300 RPM. Adjust low-side gauge valve so pressure does not exceed 50 psi (3.5 kg/cm2 ). When proper amount of refrigerant has been added, close valve on manifold gauge set. Stop engine, and disconnect gauge set.
