Test 41A - Shorted Instrument Cluster Power Supply

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  in this article. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B  after each repair.
  1. Reinstall fuse No. 9. Ensure park lamps are still on. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Natural connector. BCM is located behind left side knee panel. Check condition of connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on BCM Natural connector terminal No. 8 (Tan wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to step 4). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  3. Check voltage on fuse No. 9 connector (Black/Yellow wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open Tan wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Black/Yellow wire.
  4. Disconnect left pod switch connectors. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of left pod switch Black connector terminal No. 6 (Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Check resistance of left pod switch Black connector terminal No. 1 (Orange/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/Black wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  6. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between left pod switch assembly connector terminals No. 1 and 6. Move dimmer switch slowly between LOW and HIGH positions. If resistance changes from less than 100 ohms to more than 8000 ohms, replace left pod switch. If resistance does not change from less than 100 ohms to more than 8000 ohms, go to next step.
  7. Reconnect left pod switch connectors. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of BCM Natural connector terminal No. 10 (Orange/Black wire). Move dimmer switch slowly between LOW and HIGH positions. If resistance does not change from less than 100 ohms to more than 8000 ohms, repair open Orange/Black wire. If resistance changes from less than 100 ohms to more than 8000 ohms, replace BCM.
