Inoperative Gauge
- If a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) self-diagnostic code is set, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES
article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If VSS is good, go to next step. If VSS tests bad, replace VSS.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect VSS connector, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector "B" (White connector) and daytime running light module connector (if equipped). Remove instrument cluster bezel and cluster assembly. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect gauge cluster connector.
- Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between gauge cluster connector terminal A5 (White/Orange wire) and chassis ground. See Figure
. If continuity exists, repair short to ground. If no continuity exists, go to next step.
- Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between gauge cluster connector terminal A5 and VSS connector terminal No. 3 (White/Orange wire). See Fig 1
. If continuity exists, replace speedometer/odometer. If no continuity exists, repair open White/Orange wire to VSS connector.
