Throttle Position (TP) Sensor

  1. Turn ignition on. Check TP sensor output voltage at sensor wiring harness center terminal. TP sensor is located on throttle body. At idle, output voltage should be greater than .2 volt.
  2. Gradually open throttle plate. Output voltage should gradually increase as throttle plate is opened. At wide open throttle, output voltage must be less than 4.8 volts.
  3. If voltage is not as specified, ensure 5-volt input and ground circuits between TP sensor and PCM are okay. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS  section. Repair circuits if necessary. If TP sensor output voltage is still not as specified, replace TP sensor. Adjustment is not required or possible.
NOTE: Also see appropriate TP sensor tests in TESTS W/CODES - 5.2L V8 article.
