Test TC-151A - Fuel Level Unit No Change Over Miles

NOTE: For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION DIRECTORY. For component location see wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  1. Ensure fuel tank is 1/4 full. Using scan tool, read and note fuel level sending unit voltage. If voltage is less than 0.2 volt, perform TEST TC-149A. If voltage is more than 4.7 volts, perform TEST TC-150A. Go to next step.
  2. If voltage is not 2.5-4.7 volts, go to step 6). If voltage is as specified, add 5 gallons of fuel to fuel tank. Go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, read fuel level sending unit voltage. If voltage does not decrease by at least 0.2 volt, replace fuel pump module and perform TEST VER-2A. If voltage decreases by at least 0.2 volt, go to next step.
  4. Condition required to set DTC is not present at this time. FUEL LEVEL UNIT NO CHANGE OVER MILES DTC sets if Powertrain Control Module (PCM) does not sense fuel level signal circuit voltage change a calibrated amount over a calculated number of miles. Possible causes are: open sensor signal circuit, defective fuel level sending unit, defective PCM, or defective connections or wiring. Go to next step.
  5. Inspect all related wiring and connectors. Repair wiring and connectors as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A. If wiring and connectors are okay, test is complete. Perform TEST VER-2A.
  6. Remove at least 5 gallons of fuel from fuel tank. Using scan tool, read fuel level sending unit voltage. If voltage does not increase by at least 0.2 volt, replace fuel pump module and perform TEST VER-2A. If voltage increases by at least 0.2 volt, go to next step.
  7. Condition required to set DTC is not present at this time. FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT NO CHANGE OVER MILES DTC sets if Powertrain Control Module (PCM) does not sense fuel level signal circuit voltage change a calibrated amount over a calculated number of miles. Possible causes are: open sensor signal circuit, defective fuel level sending unit, defective PCM, or defective connections or wiring. Go to next step.
  8. Inspect all related wiring and connectors. Repair wiring and connectors as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A. If wiring and connectors are okay, test is complete. Perform TEST VER-2A.
NOTE: A break in test sequence occurs at this point. Sequence skips from TEST TC-151A to TEST TC-153A. No tests have been omitted.
