DTC P1687: No Cluster Bus Message: Testing

  1. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter is displayed and displayed count is "0", go to next step. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter is not displayed or displayed count is not "0", go to step 3 .
  2. Using scan tool, select BODY system, then ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER. If scan tool does not communicate with instrument cluster, go to BUS +/- SIGNAL OPEN FROM MECHANICAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - GRAND CHEROKEE article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If scan tool communicates with instrument cluster, go to NO RESPONSE FROM POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCI BUS) under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - GRAND CHEROKEE article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. Turn ignition off. It is assumed that there is an intermittent problem with wiring harness and/or connectors. Visually inspect all related connectors and wiring harness for any possible problems. Also, check for any related technical service bulletins that may apply and repair as necessary. If no problems are found, test is complete.
