Chime Sounds With Driver's Seat Belt Fastened
Possible Causes:
- Seat Belt Switch Status Wrong
- Seat Belt Switch Open
- Ground Wire Open
- Seat Belt Switch Sense Open
- Instrument Cluster - Seat Belt Sense Open
Testing
- Fasten driver's seat belt. Using scan tool, select ELECTRO MECH CLUSTER INPUT OUTPUT. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check driver's seat belt switch status. If status is not CLOSED, go to next step. If status is CLOSED, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect 2-pin seat belt switch connector. Check resistance between seat belt switch harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or poor connection on Black wire to ground, located on left kick panel.
- Connect a jumper wire between seat belt switch harness connector terminals. Using scan tool, check driver's seat belt switch status. If status is not CLOSED, go to next step. If status is CLOSED, check for open on seat belt switch pigtail. Repair as necessary. If no problem is found, replace seat belt buckle.
- Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance of Light Green/Red wire between seat belt switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and 16-pin instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit on Light Green/Red wire.
- If no other problems are found, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
