Cover(S), Engine Timing: Installation

  1. Place a shop towel over the engine oil pan opening to catch any debris created while cleaning the sealing surfaces on the engine block.
  2. Clean the engine timing cover and engine block surface.
    NOTE:

    Always install a NEW  gaskets and seals when servicing the engine timing cover.

  3. Apply a small bead of RTV sealant to right edge of the engine block, where the engine block meets the oil pan (1).

  4. Apply a small bead of RTV sealant to the left edge of the engine bock, where the engine meets the oil pan (1).
  5. Verify that the engine timing cover slide bushings remain located in the engine timing cover.

  6. Using a NEW  gasket, install the engine timing cover (2) to the engine block (1).

  7. Tighten the timing cover retaining bolts (1) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  8. Install the five oil pan to timing cover bolts and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  9. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to COMPRESSOR, A/C, INSTALLATION .
  10. Install the lower radiator hose to the water pump.
  11. Install the generator. Refer to GENERATOR, INSTALLATION .
  12. Install the belt idler pulley. Refer to PULLEY, IDLER, INSTALLATION, 5.7L/6.4L .
  13. Install the belt tensioner. Refer to TENSIONER, BELT, INSTALLATION, 5.7L/6.4L .

  14. Install the crankshaft vibration damper (3). Refer to INSTALLATION  .
  15. Remove the protective cover (1) from the radiator face.
  16. Install the cooling fan. Refer to FAN, COOLING, INSTALLATION, 5.7/6.4L SINGLE FAN .

  17. Connect the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor wire harness connector (1).

  18. Install the heater tube (3) into of the water pump.
  19. Install the heater tube bracket bolt located at the rear of the left cylinder head.
  20. Install the heater tube bolt (1) and tighten to 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.).
  21. Connect the coolant temperature sensor wire harness connector (2).
  22. If equipped, install the power steering pump.
  23. Install the upper radiator hose.
  24. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION, INSTALLATION  .
  25. Fill the cooling system with the specified type and amount of engine coolant. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  26. Connect the negative battery cable.
  27. Change the engine oil filter and fill the crankcase with the specified type and amount of engine oil. Refer to ENGINE/LUBRICATION/OIL - STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  28. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  29. Install the under body shield. Refer to SHIELD, REAR MOUNT, INSTALLATION .
  30. Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, INSTALLATION .
