Cover(S), Engine Timing: Installation

- Place a shop towel over the engine oil pan opening to catch any debris created while cleaning the sealing surfaces on the engine block.
- Clean the engine timing cover and engine block surface.NOTE:
Always install a NEW gaskets and seals when servicing the engine timing cover.
- Apply a small bead of RTV sealant to right edge of the engine block, where the engine block meets the oil pan (1).
- Apply a small bead of RTV sealant to the left edge of the engine bock, where the engine meets the oil pan (1).
- Verify that the engine timing cover slide bushings remain located in the engine timing cover.
- Using a NEW
gasket, install the engine timing cover (2) to the engine block (1).
- Tighten the timing cover retaining bolts (1) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
.
- Install the five oil pan to timing cover bolts and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the A/C compressor. Refer to COMPRESSOR, A/C, INSTALLATION .
- Install the lower radiator hose to the water pump.
- Install the generator. Refer to GENERATOR, INSTALLATION .
- Install the belt idler pulley. Refer to PULLEY, IDLER, INSTALLATION, 5.7L/6.4L .
- Install the belt tensioner. Refer to TENSIONER, BELT, INSTALLATION, 5.7L/6.4L

- Install the crankshaft vibration damper (3). Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Remove the protective cover (1) from the radiator face.
- Install the cooling fan. Refer to FAN, COOLING, INSTALLATION, 5.7/6.4L SINGLE FAN

- Connect the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor wire harness connector (1).
- Install the heater tube (3) into of the water pump.
- Install the heater tube bracket bolt located at the rear of the left cylinder head.
- Install the heater tube bolt (1) and tighten to 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.).
- Connect the coolant temperature sensor wire harness connector (2).
- If equipped, install the power steering pump.
- Install the upper radiator hose.
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION, INSTALLATION .
- Fill the cooling system with the specified type and amount of engine coolant. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Change the engine oil filter and fill the crankcase with the specified type and amount of engine oil. Refer to ENGINE/LUBRICATION/OIL - STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
- Install the under body shield. Refer to SHIELD, REAR MOUNT, INSTALLATION .
- Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, INSTALLATION .
