Inner Tie Rod

  1. Apply Mopar® Lock and Seal Adhesive or equivalent thread lock adhesive to the inboard side of the inner tie rod end.
  2. Thread the inner tie rod to the rack and pinion.
  3. Using the Inner Tie Rod Socket (special tool #10087-6, Socket, Inner Tie Rod) (1) and the Inner Tie Rod Adapter Wrench (special tool #10087-2A, Adapter Wrench, Inner Tie Rod) (2), tighten the inner tie rod end to 88 N.m (65 ft. lbs.).

    NOTE:

    Lubricant between the boot and tie rod end will allow the toe adjustment procedure without twisting the boot.

  4. Apply a small amount of Mopar® Lubriplate, or equivalent in the recessed area of the inner tie rod where the small end of the boot attaches.
  5. Position the large clamp (1) on the boot (2) and install the boot over the inner tie rod and rack.
  6. Engage the small end of boot (2) in the groove and install the small boot clamp (3).
  7. Using a crimp tool, or equivalent, tighten the large boot clamp (1).
  8. Install the jam nut (3) to the inner tie rod end.
    NOTE:

    The toe adjustment procedure must be performed after installing the outer tie rod.

  9. Install the outer tie rod. Refer to END, TIE ROD, INSTALLATION .
  10. After toe adjustment, tighten the jam nut (3) to 75 N.m (55 ft. lbs).
