Sensor, Crankshaft Position: Operation

The crankshaft position and engine speed are sensed with a contactless hall effect signal generated by the Crankshaft Position Sensor CKP). The distance between the CKP and the tone wheel inside the rear main seal assembly is fixed by the installation position.
When the crankshaft rotates, a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) (ON/OFF) voltage signal is generated in the CKP sensor by the tone wheel inside the rear main seal assembly.
