Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR ANY APPLICABLE SERVICE BULLETINS
- Check for any Service Bulletins that may apply for this issue.
- Were any Service Bulletins applicable?
Yes
- Perform the applicable Service Bulletin. Erase the DTC and perform the verification test.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 3.2L .
No
- Go To 2
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Start the engine.
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.NOTE:
It may be necessary to drive the vehicle to meet the conditions to set this DTC, try to repeat the conditions in which the fault originally set by reviewing the Freeze Frame data.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any O2 Sensor circuit DTCs active or pending?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to 3.2L - DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No
- Go To 4
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- CHECK THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR LEAKS
- Perform the CHECKING THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR LEAKS test procedure. Refer to CHECKING THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR LEAKS

Were any exhaust leaks found?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repairs.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 3.2L .
No
- Go To 5
- Perform the CHECKING THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR LEAKS test procedure. Refer to CHECKING THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR LEAKS

- CHECK THE O2 SENSOR MOUNTING AND WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the O2 Sensor 2/2 and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Check the O2 Sensor for proper mounting. Verify the sensor is not loose or cross threaded, or that the boss is not damaged.
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
- Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the O2 Sensor 2/2 and Powertrain Control Module connectors.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 3.2L .
No
- Replace the Oxygen Sensor 2/2 in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SENSOR, OXYGEN, REMOVAL, 3.2L
.NOTE:
Check for signs of contaminants that may have damaged the O2 Sensor, such as contaminated fuel, unapproved silicone, oil and coolant and perform the appropriate repairs before replacing the O2 Sensor.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 3.2L .
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the O2 Sensor 2/2 and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
