Section 38 (Charging System (Service Information)): Generator: Installation: 2.4L

- Position generator in order to move past the A/C compressor and up toward generator mounting bracket.
- Continue moving generator up towards generator mounting bracket.
- Install generator (1) to engine mounting bracket.
- Install lower mounting bolt (2) and upper mounting bolt (3) to generator (1). Tighten bolts to 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.).
- Install lower idler pulley and bolt. Tighten bolt to 50 N.m (37 ft. lbs.).
- Connect field wire connector (4) into generator.
- Install B+ terminal (3) and nut (2) to generator mounting stud. Tighten nut to 10 N.m (88.5 in. lbs.)
- Snap plastic protective cover (1) to B+ terminal.
- Install A/C compressor. Refer to COMPRESSOR, A/C, INSTALLATION
.CAUTION:
Never force a belt over a pulley rim using a screwdriver. The synthetic fiber of the belt can be damaged.
CAUTION:When installing a serpentine accessory drive belt, the belt MUST be routed correctly. The water pump will be rotating in the wrong direction if the belt is installed incorrectly, causing the engine to overheat. Refer to belt routing label in engine compartment, or refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .
- Install drive belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, INSTALLATION .
- Install right front wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, INSTALLATION .
- Install underbody air dam.
- Connect negative battery cable, tighten nut to 4.5 N.m (40 in. lbs.).
