Tank, Diesel Exhaust Fluid: Installation

  1. Position the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank (2) onto tank mount.
  2. Install the DEF tank straps. Tighten the bolts (1, 3) to 54 N.m (40 ft. lbs.).

  3. Position the DEF Tank onto transmission jack and raise tank part way into place.
  4. Install the rear DEF tank mounting nuts (1) and tighten to 29 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).

  5. Install the front DEF tank mounting bolts (2) and tighten to 33 N.m (24 ft. lbs.).
  6. Remove the transmission jack.

  7. Connect the DEF level sensor/heater wire harness connector (3).
  8. Connect the DEF supply line (2).
  9. Connect the DEF level sensor/heater wire harness connector (1).

  10. Install the DEF pump cover. Tighten nuts (1) to 15 N.m (11 ft. lbs.).

  11. Connect the DEF fill vent tube (1) to the vent valve (2).

  12. Connect the DEF fill tube (2) to the DEF tank (1).
  13. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  14. Fill the DEF tank with clean fresh fluid.
  15. Connect the negative battery cables.
    NOTE:

    You may be require to run the DEF Pump Replacement  procedure two to three times to ensure that the pump is properly primed.

  16. Using a scan tool, perform DEF Pump Replacement  function found under MISCELLANEOUS FUNCTIONS.
  17. Using a scan tool, perform DEF Tank Fluid Level Reset  function found under MISCELLANEOUS FUNCTIONS.
