Common Problem Causes

PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION: 

• Verify that the transmission fluid level is at the proper cold fill level.
• Inspect the exterior of the transmission for evidence of fluid leaks.
• Inspect the exterior of the transmission for mechanical issues such as improper shift cable routing, loose transfer case bolts, transmission mounting bolts, or propeller shaft bolts.
• Verify clutch disengagement if the clutch pedal is depressed.
• Verify there is not any unintended wheel rotation:
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Shift into first gear.
  3. Depress the clutch pedal.
  4. Start the engine. The wheels should not rotate.
• Inspect witness marks on bolts and switches for proper orientation.
  NOTE:

  Witness marks that are not oriented properly indicate potential disassembly after the vehicle was released from the plant.
