2.0L Description
The exhaust system on the 2.0L engine models consists of a catalytic converter assembly (1), exhaust pipe (2), exhaust isolators (3, 4, 7, 8), exhaust clamp (5), exhaust resonator (6), exhaust clamp (7), and exhaust muffler (9).
1 - CATALYTIC CONVERTER
2 - EXHAUST PIPE
3 - EXHAUST ISOLATORS
4 - EXHAUST ISOLATORS
5 - EXHAUST CLAMP
6 - EXHAUST RESONATOR
7 - EXHAUST CLAMP
8 - EXHAUST ISOLATORS
9 - EXHAUST MUFFLER
The normal operating temperature of the exhaust system is very high. Therefore, never work around or attempt to service any part of the exhaust system until it is cooled. Special care should be taken when working near the catalytic converter. The temperature of the converter rises to a high level after a short period of engine operation time.
Do not remove spark plug wires from plugs or by any other means short out cylinders. Failure of the catalytic converter can occur due to a temperature increase caused by unburned fuel passing through the converter.
- There are two types of heat shields used. One is stamped steel the other is molded foil sheets. The shields attach to the vehicle around the exhaust system to prevent heat from the exhaust system from entering the passenger area and other areas where the heat can cause damage to other components.
