Cam Chain

  1. Install the cam chain (1) starting from the crankshaft sprocket, position the painted chain links (2) at the reference mark (3).

  2. Install the cam chain on the camshaft sprockets, so that the camshaft sprocket timing marks (1 and 2) align with the painted chain links.

  3. Install the cam chain tensioner (1) and tighten the bolts (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to (TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS ).

  4. Hold the cam chain tensioner arm (2) against the tensioner piston, remove the (special tool #8514A, Pins, Tensioner) (1) and release the tensioner arm.

  5. Install the cam chain guide (2) and tighten the bolt (1) to the proper torque specification. Refer to (TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS ).
  6. Temporarily reinstall the timing chain cover and the crankshaft damper in order to verify valve timing.
  7. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise two complete revolutions and verify correct valve timing. Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  8. If the valve timing is not correct, repeat this procedure.
  9. Install the timing chain cover. Refer to INSTALLATION  .
  10. If removed, install the oil filter and fill the engine crankcase with the proper oil to the correct level. Refer to ENGINE/LUBRICATION/OIL - STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  11. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. Check the cooling system for correct fluid level.
